"There is no encouragement for ghosts in most of our villages, for they have scarcely had time to finish their first nap, and turn themselves in their graves before their surviving friends have travelled away from the neighborhood; so that when they turn out at night to walk their rounds, they have no acquaintance left to call upon. This is perhaps the reason why we so seldom hear of ghosts, except in our long-established Dutch communities."

Hi Laura...
How funny...We are actually watching the Francis Ford Coppola version of Sleepy Hollow tonight. I was just thinking about the Irving story and how I should re-read it seeing that it has been years since I last read the original version.
It was wonderful meeting you at the tea!
Hi Rebecca,
You know, I'm not sure if I've ever read the Sleepy Hollow story. Sometimes I think I know a story but then I realize it's because I've seen the movies, not actually read the story (thankfully that's not the case with Jane Austen's works!).
Jenni and I had a wonderful time meeting the ladies at the tea.
